We can’t wait for you to visit the City of Oaks for the upcoming Juris® User Conference in September. The agenda is packed with product updates, various learning tracks, and expert panels. Apart from the conference though, Raleigh has a lot to offer to fill up your free time. From great outdoor activities to bar hopping, you’ll have a hard time choosing what you should be doing away from the conference.

William B. Umstead Park
William B. Umstead State Park is located 15 minutes outside of downtown Raleigh and is home to various unique North Carolina flora and fauna. The park has three man-made lakes, 22 miles of hiking trails, 13 miles of bike trails, and a 6000-acre recreational area for countless outdoor activities. It’s the ideal spot to spend your free time if you love hiking, kayaking, cycling, fishing, and more. Especially in October, you can watch the leaves change color while enjoying North Carolina’s perfect fall weather.

Proximity to the Mountains and the Beach
One of the things I love the most about North Carolina is that both the mountains and the beach are just a short road trip away. After Juris Conference, take a trip to Carolina Beach to enjoy sunrise walks on the beach or to Blue Ridge Parkway for the changing of the leaves—the locations are just a few hours away from Raleigh, making it easy to take a weekend trip to either or both! Be sure to take a scenic route. You won’t regret it.

North Carolina Beer & Wine
Raleigh is full of great bars and breweries to satisfy all your local beer and wine needs. Home to the Raleigh Beer Garden, the World-Record-holding brewery with the greatest number of taps on hand, you can find all your favorite beers and ciders along with a couple unconventional ones. If that isn’t the place for you, there are more than 50 other places to choose from. Not to mention that Raleigh brewery scene is great. Raleigh was amongst the top 10 beer locations in the world by VinePair. You won’t have to look far for a good drink in Raleigh. Also, during the Juris conference, you’ll have the chance to taste various local NC wines, so you won’t want to miss out!

The Food
Raleigh has quickly become one of the foodie capitals of the US, with a long list of award-winning food halls and restaurants, including Transfer Co. Food Hall, Poole’s Downtown Diner, and Death & Taxes (one of my personal favorites). There are even more tasty spots down Glenwood, with tacos, bar food, Irish cuisine, pho, and pizza. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to witness Raleigh’s food truck rodeo that takes place once a month. Dozens of food trucks gather in downtown Raleigh, letting attendees try authentic and fusion cuisines from around the world. Also, award-winning chef Ashley Christensen made Raleigh the home to Beasley’s chicken and waffles. Trust me: you can’t knock it ‘til you tried it–the sweet and savory combination is unbeatable.

North Carolina State Fair
When the weather gets cooler, most North Carolinians can’t help but think of the State Fair. Every year in October, the fair comes around with rides, games, and a lot of fried foods. We’re always on the look out for the best fair foods, and it doesn’t disappoint. Ranking 9th in the nation, North Carolina’s state fair spans the State fairgrounds to give you animal exhibitions, biggest pumpkin contests, fried ice cream, and more! The fair’s starting dates line up with Juris conference this year, so be sure to stop by to have some fun after a long day of learning and networking.
