Special characters like symbols (#, @ &) as well as punctuation (apostrophe, period, comma) may be included in the search as well. For example, if a user needs to do a search for the firm of Smith & Smith, a search for only the name Smith could potentially bring up excessive results; but the following search could be performed:
“Smith & Smith”
If the user is not sure if the firm is called “Smith & Smith” or “Smith and Smith”, the search could be written as:
“Smith & Smith” or “Smith and Smith”
Quotes are not required in a special character search, but were used in the example above since the search criteria was so general. For example, a search for:
Gold & Moore
Would return matches on the items 'Gold' or '&' or 'Moore' such as:
