Activity Codes Overview

Activity Codes may be used on time entries when a firm needs to define specific activity types that may be performed for a client. The Activity Codes may be used alone or in conjunction with Task Codes, where the Task Code are used to identify a job that must be completed and the Activity Codes are used to identify specific functions that were performed in order to complete the job, or Task.

Activity Codes require a 4-character code and short description, and a narrative field which is optional.  The narrative assigned to Activity Codes will be inserted in the Time Entry narrative whenever the Activity Code is used.  The Activity Code narrative is not required, and may be left blank when Activity Codes are to be used in time entries, but automatic population of the time entry narrative is not desired.

The use of optional Activity Codes for Time Entries is determined by the selection chosen in Firm Options on the Trans. tab. Once Activity Codes are enabled in Firm Options, they may become required fields on time entries for particular Clients or Matters by selecting "Require Activity Codes on all time entries" on the Int./Disc tab at the Client and/or Matter level.

The Activity Code and Activity Code Description may be included in the bill design and printed on prebills, final bills, or both.
